84 to 87 radiator upgrade

Melting Slicks
Hi
The 84-87 use the same radiator the 1 inchg row aluminum with plastic tanks, i have found you should be very very very careful on what double row aluminum radiator to buy. There are aluminum radiators with 2x i inch rows that will not flow enough and are made in China with serious problems.
I have a 2 row all aluminum radiator i got from ebay, it would not cool the standard engine. That was a waste of money and sent of to scap metal recyclers. Had very bad build quality the ends of the rows had the aluminum folded over restricting flow, you get what you pay for and i threw a few hundred away (including postage) by going cheap
It may have been fixable however the tanks are welded on and removing the tanks fixing the core and getting them aluminum welded again would have cost more than it was worth.
The only double row radiator that has people singing nothing but praise are the DEWITTS double row all aluminum radiators. They cost more but you only have to do the job once.

This thread has information on all-aluminum radiators:

That said, I have a DeWitt's radiator in my car... The DeWitt's radiator came with new rubber mounts that were already made the correct size for the radiator -- no cutting required.

Yes I used a DeWitts in the 86 that is now in the 88. BeCool is a fine brand.

i did do some research on the issue and all i know is that i wouldnt buy one from china just because its cheap---ive got alot of money tied up in my engine and im not going to put it at risk with a cheap piece of junk--a friend of mine bought a direct fit one for his 68 road runner ---it wouldnt fit--tied him up for a couple of weeks--they did take it back----anyway its either BeCool or DeWitts for me
