Default Throttle body size

I am looking to upgrade the throttle body on my 1991 L98. Should I step up to the 52mm or jump to the 58mm. I am about to do an exhaust upgrade and the K&N filter along with cutting out the loovers in the air box. I realize fuel consumption will be greater. But will I need to do any thing extra to the engine if I go with the 58mm?

I would like to hear pros and cons on this subject also.

Thanks for all your input.

If you have no other modifications currently, and only plan on the minor changes (listed in your post) the only thing a larger 52 or 58 TB will do is lighten your wallet. It is not like the old days when you went from a 2 barrel carb to a 4 barrel or upgraded to a Holley. Fuel consumption will be about the same unless you put your foot into it more often.

Put your money into the exhaust, new plugs, wires etc for a good tune up.

OK makes since to me. What other mods would make the 58mm worth having?

Ok cool! I'm trying to figure out the best way to spend a little and get a lot. Just like everybody else. Lol...
So I guess I'll do the K&N / air box mod. The exhaust and have her tuned by the pros and I should be good for a couple weeks... Lol....

Long tube headers. Preferably by a company like TPIS, or someone with true high quality fitted headers for your vette.

Nothing wakes an L98 up quicker than Headers. Yes it's expensive for the good headers. Trust me the price difference between having TPIS say vs...OBX is worth it in the aggravation of making everything fit properly. After that, converting to true dual exhaust (going to an x pipe in the middle) and high flow mufflers.

After that, the SLP cold air induction, Accel, Edelbrock, TPIS/AS&M intake runners, and then finally the intake base manifold.

Now on the non engine related side, for price... going to the 3.07 rear gear or even a 3.23 is going to be one of your better returns of investment.

eldebrock highflow manifold and runners..(new)1,000 bucks. easy to spend lots of money quickly. to easy . Also, my runners needed to be worked to get the slag out and inside of the ports cleaned up..not hard but for the money.. just saying. I have Headman headers. I do NOT care for the fit and would NOT purchase them again.

A 52 mm is good to 400 hp, and a 58 to at least 500 hp. On a stock engine it would most likely create a slight hesitation is the speed density system.
