Re: Putting in a different Chip...quick question. (rockycamaro)
Rocky, I don't think you have to disconnect the battery. I recently had my car tuned, which required about 6 chip changes, and we didn't disconnect the battery between chips. I didn't have ANY problems and the car runs great!!!

Pulling the ECM fuse should have the same effect - no power to the ECM. Better safe than sorry.
I am changing chips daily without disconnecting anything, no probs, but I have the adaptor that keeps the memcal in place, only the PROM chip comes out. YMMV.
Re: Putting in a different Chip...quick question. (HighRev03)
I used to disconnect the battery because the manual says to, sets the aftermarket alarm off when I reconnect. But then Jim Jones at Traco Engr. who programmed the chip for my 86 said I didn't have to. So I haven't since, and haven't had any trouble. Did my 87 and 92 that way.

Yes, definitely disconnect negative side, unless you have a static strap and a good ground to clip onto. :yesnod: It's easy to disconnect and you'll save the chip! :D
