Default '94 brake upgrade options...

I have a 94 base model that I've started to do some track days with. I'm having problems with the front brakes. Cracked and or warped 2 sets of rotors (in 3 track days, maybe 350 miles) and boiled the dot4 fluid at my last outing. Current set up is Hawk HP plus pads and Advance Brake Technology Rotors. I'm interested in upgrading the front brakes.

The first thing I thought of is the C5 13" brakes. I have "A mold" ZR1 style wheels. Will they work together?

Is there a 12" rotor out there that will hold up better to track days?

You can take a look at the Baer Erradispeed (sp) rotors... they are 2 pieces with an aluminum hat and drilled rotor. I hear they are pretty good.

If nothing else, upgrade to C4 13" Grand Sport or ZR1 brakes. They will fit in your amolds and will work fine with the rest of the setup. I am not convinced that C5 brakes are the solution... they are pricey at best, and for a little more cash, a Wilwood type setup is much better.

beyond the diameter difference, the real difference is rotor thickness.... The 13" rotor is a good 1/4 thicker.

You are on the right track... just refine the process.

Would I need New calipers, brackets ,lines etc with the 13" GS or ZR1 rotors?

Can't speak for the exact nature of those items but if you need some "complete" big brake kit options to balance against for the cost comparisons by all means let me know.

I am not sure which brakes you will go with, but the ZR1 style wheels fit on a C5. I tried them on my '99. Mine were actually the 17" x 9" Camaro SS wheels.

Rockauto sells the rotors and calipers for the HD C4 brakes at a good price. I bought a set but have never installed them: I already have C5 brakes on my track car... that I haven't had a chance to get to the track yet

The c4 HD front brakes use different caliper and rotor, but the same pads as the standard brakes.

I'll probably never get around to putting the new stuff on and leave the C5 stuff alone. If you want these let me know.

Also... look into ducting to help cool off those rotors.
