Default Quick Question about GUTTING CATS.....

Hey All.... Before I get started I just want to say... I dont have to worry about passing emissions... So dont worry about that....

Now Im going to Gut my Pre-Cats... I want to see how much of a difference it will make... If it doesnt make that much of a difference, I think Im going to go with a True Dual Set-up... Anything I should know or do? Will I get more of a gain if I cut them out and weld pipes in there place? How much power should I be looking to gain with doing this? Im going to do this tomorrow.... Any advice or imput would be great.... Thanks all

I just had my precats cut out yesterday. Mine were already hollow when they came out. I didnt notice any SOTP power gains, but my gf did mention that the vette's exhaust sounded lower and meaner. :D Based on that bit of info, Im REALLY considering going with headers soon. My main cat was also hollow when I had the rear Y replaced, so it looks like the previous owner may have done some cat cutting.

I have a '91 also and I've gutted my main cat and installed a SS front y-pipe without the pre-cats. I did a number of other small mods at the same time, but the combination of all yielded a pretty nice gain (see sig.) :chevy

had mine removed on my 93. Put on watson fullength headers at the same time. headers back is the bone stock LT1 exhaust. I recorded 19 rwhp with no cats/headers.... thats with stock exhaust.

This is probably too late but...had the precats and main on my 87. Noticed a SOTP feel immediately. Also as another said, the sound grew lounder and deeper. Really like the sound and performance. Didn't do a DYNO so have no way to tell the actual HP increase other than SOTP.
Good luck  :flag

I got my watson headers from Callaway. Callway makes custom designs and watson builds them for him. they cost me $1400 from him. Ive had them for 5 years, and the ceramic coating still looks new!
