I am new here and new to the C4 Corvette just traded my 78 Corvette for an 87 and was wondering what is the best cam? I was wondering my radio does not work when I turn it on nothing happens I did not get any sound and the antenna does not go up. The previous owner said to just replace the radio and it should work does that sound right?
Also I would like to replace it with a touchscreen what is the best that has navigation and blue tooth?
Now... the radio... gut the entire pile of bose crap and go aftermarket. Save yourself a pot load of grief.
Even more important, get the Helm Factory service manual, they are available on CD for about $20 on ebay.
A cam? You need to think of a lot more parts before doing just a cam to these engines. the TPI is a pain in the *** to modify and putting in a cam won't help much without other things done first or with.
Do some reading on the L98 intake issues and options... Superram, miniram, LT1 conversion, Upgrading the existing TPI, making a 4bbl intake work with EFI...
If I had an 87 (which I do), I would focus my energies at installing an LSx and be done with it.
Regardless of the gearbox, get rid of what is there and convert over to a 5sp manual. The former TKO 5spds, available, IIRC, through Liberty Gear, are the bom.
Thank you for replying I saw a few Ls1 engines on eBay for 2500 but first I will replace the radio. Do you know some good touch screens? Also just thought of has there been a conversion done to the targa to install latches on it like t-tops have?
I have been impressed with the newer Kenwood and Pioneer head units.
Be cautious... the fancy screen double din or 1.5 din heads have looks, but lack tech... no HD, no sat, little interfacing... poor... surf Crutchfield for some ideas.
Get at it little by little one thing at a time youll get there
Most the rides here were done over a period of many yrs
Lsx motors are great but unless youre a real great wrench and decent with wiring make no mistake its an expensive conversion. You can still make plenty of power with a Gen 1 350
Thank you for the advice. I am little concerned about the dash. I want to keep the interior as stock as possible I like the digital dash in it would I be able to keep it and have all gauges working? The first thing I am going to do is to get it rebuilt and maybe add some more power to it. What mods would you recommend? Would I be able to install a mild cam on it? This is my daily driver in the summer.

You cannot just dump a cam and be happy. What does this cam do with the intake, exhaust, heads and tuning? This needs to be planned. I would start with intake and exhaust first then heads and cam. All have to be matched. Then you do the ECM tuning.
It might not require programming but if you did, would the difference be significant?
I would have to see the spark map, because 86, and 89 were good, but some 87, 88's were a bit weak. In a speed density car it would make more of a change, but mass air can tolerate small changes much better.
