My 1995 ZF6 won't go into reverse and it is apparently an internal problem, apparently a synchronizer. The cost to rebuild/repair it with shipping is going to be around $2K and I haven't found a good used one. I have an LT1 and T56 from a 1995 Trans Am in a 280Z project. I've been reading some T56 threads here, but it looks like most of these were in non-LT1/ZF6 cars.
Has anyone here put a T56 into an LT1/ZF6 car? I'd like to hear some thoughts.
check with Vette2Vette.com for a used box. Also, Dino's Corvette Salvage (in Mississippi). There are a lot of these boxes out there and they are not that hard to find.
Hold on to the existing ZF and send it to ZFDoc.com when you have $3500 to kill. He is THE man to build that thing.
I know nothing is free, but for $3500 I could put a Gen 3 V8 truck motor and T56 behind it. The last L33 aluminum block junkyard Gen 3 V8 I bought was around $800, and the T56 was around $1200. I think I only paid around $2K for the bulletproof T56 I have in my LT1 Trans Am that makes about 200 HP more than the C4.
Maybe this will help get you started. http://www.tommysspeedshop.com/about-us.html
There are several people who have done this. I searched it and found more info than I can post here.
