Default Look What I found today!!

While changing my optispark today....again, I decided to go ahead and mount a 36-1 trigger wheel for a Megajolt setup, should this opti not work out too.
I removed the left valve cover to watch rocker arms to find TDC and got a surprise, see pics.
This car came from a wholesale dealer who knew nothing about the car at all. I knew it had a few aftermarket parts on it, headers, throttle body but was blown away to find a set of Dart Pro1 180 heads on it...sweet

Default Good Suprises!

Good surprises are rare and especially welcome.

Usually, I find a whole bunch of not-so-good surprises when I go into my engines.

Now that you know your heads are upgraded, I'll bet you just "spent" the head upgrade money (you had not really yet saved, but were going to...) on a few other projects in your head!

Cheers,
M

Default Upgrade???

I'm kinda new to LT1's.....What would make a good choice for a cam? It's a fun on the street car only, below 6k rpm's. I hear alot of folks talk about the "hot cam".
What about a set of 1.6 roller rockers????

If the PO did the heads, maybe he did a cam too?

Even if he did, you may want a different engine characteristic than the existing cam provides.

Cam is the brains of the engine, so choose carefully!

There are MANY experts on CF with huge knowledge in their heads about cams. I can't possibly compare to them, so I will only ask a few questions that they might ask so they can recommend something to you. Basically, one needs to know how the engine is breathing and its intended use to suggest a good cam profile.

KNOWN FACTS:
You want to keep the power band low (2000-5000 rpm) for street (as opposed to over 6,000 for race).
You aren't doing 1/4 mile
We know your heads are Dart 180's, which are good for low rpm torque.
Your rockers look like stock 1.5

QUESTIONS:
Do you live in California (i.e., require smog compliance)?
What throttle body (model, size) is on it now?
Is your intake a stock LT1 or LT4?
Has the intake been ported inside?
Which headers are on it?
Do you have an aftermarket cat back exhaust now?

If you answer those, most of the experts on here will have enough information to give you some good guidance.

Cheers!
M

Live in Alabama....no smog rules
Bbk throttle body....can't tell the size
Intake stock lt1 I think....don't know about porting
Doug's shorty headers.....no cats....Magnaflow stainless muffs and pipes behind rear axle
Haven't checked rear axle ratio yet....it runs at about 2200 rpm at 70mph
