I may have an option but I don't think you guys will like it. Allow me to provide a slight back story first.

I recently put on a supercharger kit from Blowerworks with a D1SC head unit that we mated up to a vortech intake and discharge tube to come up with a 'best of the best' type kit. The one thing that always bothered me was that the volute discharge diameter of the head unit was larger than the inlet of the Vortech discharge tube. We got around that by using a 3"-2 3/4" coupler. I'm sure it didn't hurt performance but it always rubbed me wrong.

Fast forward a few years and now I'm trying to get an MBA and I have an individual project to come up with a feasibility study for a business. I decide to look into manufacturing techniques to make low volume automotive parts. That idea came specifically from that discharge tube/head unit mismatch. I am currently an engineer so I brought the discharge tube into my work and modeled one up so that I could start getting quotes for different ways to manufacture it to use as a baseline to justify insourcing the manufacturing. I slightly modified the design in 3 ways: I increased the inlet diameter to 3", I shortened it about 3/4" from the Vortech design since I was curious about getting that tube to match my car's set up, and I added a boss for the methanol injection nozzle.

One place that I just got quotes back from will manufacture investment cast prototypes. Basically they will 3Dprint/SLA manufacture a core that they use as the investment part of the cast without the need for dedicated tooling. The reason I'm bring this option up is because they can deliver parts in as few as 7 days. However, waiting for 24 days significantly reduces the cost because they can work it into their normal production schedule. Also, there were significant discounts for multiple pieces manufactured at the same time.

Now the bad news: It's not cheap! Waiting for a 24 day delivery, one piece would cost $1600. 2 pieces would cost $993 each, and 4 pieces would cost $833 each.

So into the communal knowledge of the internet territory. Does anyone know of an alternative? Would anyone be willing to pay those kinds of prices? I am fairly certain that I could have several versions of the discharge tube manufactured at the same time (say the unmodified Vortech design and my D1SC modified) and still qualify for the discounted prices since the cores are not tooled up anyways. They would all be approximately the same volume and alloy and manufactured at the same time.

And for the pics or it did't happen crowd, here is a screenshot that as marked up a bit.

Please let me know what you guys think. I can use it as market research for my school project.

I can tell you that I would be interested in that. I know like my self there has to be other members even perhaps owners of other vehicals that take advantage of these blowers that would like a discharge tube instead of the stock intercooler set-up that came with these blowers. Maybe even Greg from Blowerworks could have an interest? Idk but I hope others chime in and possibly work a group buy. I would be one of them as long as the price is right. I also dont know how much these things cost normally when they were around... Any ideas?

I think making one out of round 3" stainless or aliuminum with the proper silicone sleeves to go from out throttle bodies to the pipe would be the cheapest and easiest route.

I bought a discharge tube from a member on here for 100 bucks.

I think you may be correct that having something fabricated would be the cheapest route. I think there are pictures on Blowerworks' site that show a car with that something that looks like it was fabricated from a bent tube welded to a transition that was smashed down into a oval to match the throttle body. It will work but I feel that the cast Vortech piece is a nicer solution. I don't know how many members are breaking up their supercharger kits so that they would have that piece available. However, like I mentioned in my rambling post above, I would like to make a few changes to the Vortech design to better fit my particular setup. The beauty of making something that is not tooled is that changes are very easy to incorporate.

I totally agree. It would be nice to have something that is a 100% perfect fit!

Same, and something with a blowoff valve option, and perhaps water/meth bungs... The Vortech doesn't have that does it..?

As for the kits, the Procharger kit doesnt come with it or offer anythig like it, that I know of. So not only does that make it difficult to find I doubt anyone would piece out from a new kit as well..

So let me ask.. Are we sure we still cant purchase this tube...? I did some light research and it looks like you can.

I found a installation guide online from Vortech and it state for C4 Corvette then listed parts and their numbers that should be included in the kit they sell. For Discharge tube it says part number "4GV012-028" then I did a simple google search and it brought me here.

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/product_variation.php?pvk=3055.

I was thinking of calling them to confirm this... Anyone know if this is true or just a mirrage? Lol
