alternator problem when installing racetronix wiring kit
Hi guys. So the install was going smoothly until I got to the alternator. When I tried to take off the nut that holds the alternator to battery wire, the plastic behind the nut broke and the connector on the wire broke too.
I'm not too worried about the connector as I can crimp a new one, but what do I do about the post that the wire mounts too now. Now it is a bit loose and spins since the backside isn't held in place anymore. Is there a kit to fix this or do I need to replace the alternator? Am I the only one that has cracked this 22 year old piece of plastic?
Yours looks like an early CS144 OR an earlier model that uses the same. You should be able to get battery post "local" for a DIY or take to local shop if you like.
If it's a later CS144 the stud and insulator are separate pieces. Is there a label or the alternator number still cast into yours? Looking at your last snapshot it's difficult to tell but the housing looks early to me.

thanks for the response. I didn't see any numbers on the case. Perhaps I missed them? Here are some more pics....
is there a difference in what the stud connects to between early and late c4 alternators? Do both the early an late attach to the same piece? If it's a late, can I get a replacement plastic part?

I'm good with the early for yours.
NAPA: ECH AC11 or maybe others could change an OE/GM 1975471 for you. A local electrical shop just take a copy of the image I gave you in the first link. The rear housing confirms that:

I was speaking with forum member mobandy and he has an extra alternator that I'm going to pickup off him. So,if mine is damaged and doesn't work, I do have a backup plan.
