Installed Harlan shift light...it gets the thumbs up
do a search for Harlan mini-shift light. It works like a charm. To test it, I set it at 3500 RPM (so I am not banging it past 6000 just to test it). It works fine.
It seems sturdy, and of high quality. The light is only 1 inch in diameter, and about 2" deep. I received my order within 2 weeks of placing it.
I hid it in the left side of the fake A/C vent on the left side of the vent to the right of the instrument cluster shroud. Whats cool is you can't even tell its there. I used a soldering iron to melt out a 1" app. diameter hole in the fake A/C vent backing (after I disassembled the two halves). And then a 1 1/4" hole in the back plastic behind it in the dash (because it needs extra space to back in there)
This light does a self-test and blinks (along with other warning lights) when you turn the key on so you know it works.
It has 3 wires...a switch on power source, a ground, and a wire that needs tapped into the tach output wire.
I hid the wires in between the under dash pad (which was easy to remove) and the dash support under the steering wheel.
The tach output wire is a white wire that is in a bundle of wires that plugs into a big connector going through the firewall right. This big connector is right next to the clutch pedal.
I used wire taps (that clip onto the wire, so you don't have to cut it in half) to tap into the switch on power wires.
The switch on power wire I used was pink and had either a green or black stripe (can't remember) It is in the same connector bundle going though the firewall, although I imagine you can use any source, as long as its switched on 12v. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]
Quality is great.
If you do a search for it, you may find some video and you will be able to see how bright it is. I did a few months back and the video sold me on it.
Edit - Added this.
After I installed the light, it quit working and I found out I had a bad/cracked spark plug and I was running on 7 cylinders. The light was set to 8 and worked again after I replaced the spark plug. Just thought I would add this.
Great product made in the USA
