Flat headed screwdriver will pry it off, its not difficult. Check the spring loaded contact, thats about all I can recall you being able to check.
I'd go manually wire the horn to see if it works by itself next.

i think you should hear a click from the horn relay in the dash...if you do,, its probably the horn itself....if they're stock horns, they're probably shot...put 12 volts to them....replacements aren't expensive, get a "a" and 'c' tone horn....

The horn relay is behind the driver information center in the center cluster. You should be able to hear the relay clicking when the horn button is pushed. If not, then the problem is probably in the column.
