Default 12V at the Dist. Cap

Is the single connector at the distributor cap, that has battery voltage I guess, supposed to show 12V? Does this 12V come from the battery or from somewhere else? My car has been running like crap, I mean bad. I was thinking it may be the fuel pressure regulator because it smelled like fuel in the vac line. I also took the ICM in to test it, and, it checks out good. I put it back in, put the cap on, now I have a no start situation. Checking No.1 with the timing light I am getting no light at all. I barely made it home yesterday afternoon from work so I guess its possible that whatever was failing crapped out completely. Now I am worried the ECM may be bad.

Thanks for reading!

I think the 12V from the single connector provides primary voltage for the coil and the ICM then tells it to discharge??

Ph and the car is cranking over, just not starting.

Never mind on the 12V, I guess by buddy didnt have a good ground or something as I do have battery voltage at the 12V feed. Now, I tested the coil and according to a Wells test sheet http://econtent.autozone.com:24999/z...coil_specs.pdf the Primary checks out at .5 ohms but the secondary is at 15K which is 4K out of spec. Anybody ever checked their coil and come up with similar ohm reading?

Those readings are fairly easy to come up with. The resistance in the simple touch connection adds a substantial amount to the reading...

Go back to the cap and look at ALL the blades from the coil and the other wire connections at the plug in spot where your primary wire is. Those are very good for breaking off the single strand wire. I had thre white wire break off the blade from the coil while driving a few months back...shut me down and I had to diagnose on the side of the road in afternoon traffic...NOT fun. Actually held the broken wire in place with a rubber band and some tape to get me home.....

Also, get back INSIDE the dist to make darn sure none of the inside wires got pinched when the cap was placed on. That's REAL easy to do and causes the same mystery no run problem.
I also go back and wire brush the bar around the coil and ANY and ALL contacts.

It comes from the ignition switch.
