Hey all just trying to find out what the average was for fuel starvation under hard accelearion with less than 4 bars, is it common with all C4s?, or just L98s, has anyone found a fix for this other than running full?TIA

Re: Less than 4 bars (kabnvtt)
yup...your so correct on the four bar theory.....especially going at a stand still and turning the corner while acceleration.......something with the way the fuel tank was designed around the fuel pump.....I dunno....not to GM genious if you ask me.....
a $27000-$35000 car with fuel starvation problems fresh outta the factory.....fun huh.
Not sure on the fix either....
MINE does it.....its embarrassing when you have a passenger....so I make sure I have over a half a tank....

Re: Less than 4 bars (kabnvtt)
Hmmm, was running at the track and had two bars left at the end of my last session. No starvation, was hitting the corners hard and 140 down the front straight.....different cars I guess
I can go all the way to zero bars showing and still have no starvation in corners and under hard accelleration.
You know what causes starvation at low fuel levels right? It's a deteriorated sock on the end of the fuel pump suction in the tank. You can buy a replacement sock for less than [/i]$20.00[/i] from NAPA.
Fuel starvation at 4 bars - heck yea, I run out of gas completely at 3 bars. I ran out the first week I had the car. Never let it get to 1/4 of a tank now.
I've never had a problem, but I've only been to the track a couple of times (I've never had a problem on the street). Also, I do have a new fuel pump with a new strainer sock. Coincidence?
Me too except it is more around 2-3 bars (convertible). Usually my computerized range monitor indicates I have aobut 60 miles left. Hit it hard and starvation occurs, expecially in a straigiht line. I just always put gas in when the range indicator says 100 miles. Yes, it should not happen but so far that is this only major eccentricity I have encountered and I can live with it.
It seems to me as if the fuel system wants x amount of weight in the tank or it gets upset with you. 2 bars and I better be pretty f***ing close to gas station. Last time I wasn't and ran out, I lost my fuel pump, had to be towed home. Got out the manual, paid $100 for a new pump (dealer) and found out it wasn't that bad of a job............ But looking at the pump assembly, float, tubing, etc, etc, on the way to pick up the pump I figured I'd be getting that entire assy, WRONGO BUCKO my price on that assy=$960.00........................... I think G.M. should put a gun to our heads and just call it what it is, theft.................... :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :nopity
Have a friend w/ an '86 that stuttered under 4bars of fuel. I told him he may have water in his tank and to buy some fuel additive that I used to use during the winter months back in the Midwest to help mix up the fuel with the water to burn it out. Can't remember which product he bought, but it sure fixed the engine stuttering with a low fuel tank. Could be a cheap fix for you.
Good luck,
Fix
Thanks for all the replies. I have had the car for about 5 years and it has had the problem since day one. I have replaced everything, I do keep more than 4 bars for the most part, but since the fuel pump change, strainer, filter, fpr, this is the first time I have been below 4 bars. It seems to do it from a dead stop to full throttle.
