recently I have read many threads discussing the vast improvement of fuel volume delivered/maintained one can achieve on a 1984 by replacing the stock in tank fuel pump. Issue is no one can decide what years pump is the "bang for your buck" on this replacement. Also can someone elaborate on installation. Are modifications required? Either structurally or mechanically
I don't have one, most guys rave about the walbro 255...pretty sure it goes right in.....don't know what gains if any, you'll get. I'm sure someone knows.....do you have some mods?
car is completely stock- just looking to begin modifications. running 13 psi currently. Just assumed it would be beneficial to maintain psi while increasing volume.
You can adjust your fuel pressure to 15 psi with stock 84 pump but they say they lean out on higher rpm. Some say that the higher pressure will blow your rubber lines on the 84 the 85 and up have steel lines.
I really don't think the 85 pump will be any benefit. You would be better off to buy a renegade or port your intake runners. Add larger 2 inch throttle bodies. And a good exhaust. Bump up your timing is free and will make a big difference. In an 84 there isn't much you can do to keep up with today's cars but adding rear gears and NOS, should do it there is a guy that runs in the 11's with just:
3.73 rear gear
NOS 150 hp shot
1.6 roller rocker
High flow cat
Muffler delete
I have ordered renegade intake.
I am thinking about removing mufflers and adding a high flow cat with my true dual exhaust off long tube headers. Looking for input on how much this will increase exhaust decibels? In my state they don't typically check for compliance unless they can really here you coming.
