Default Coilovers

I purchased a set of the coilovers that VANSTEEL offers for my 91 and wanted to report how helpful they were with helping me get things correct. We worked with some different spring lengths until we got the height and usable coil travel worked out. Dan sent new springs until we got it right then paid for the shipping to return the ones I didn't use.
Great vendor to work with!!!
The ride is better and you can get whatever height you want.

Generally speaking a vendor should know what "height/length" is required. Are you sure you don't mean weights? Not knowing the branding of the package it's difficult to determine what you've accomplished other than you had a good experience with VANSTEEL. Most people seem to speak well of them.

What brand shocks, springs did you end up using? That's the information that might help someone. Front & rears or just one end of the car? Single adjustable, double adjustable or just plain old shocks?

If you did the rears which mount? I believe they do a couple different.

Their kit has hyperco springs and QA! shocks single adjustable. I did front and rear. They only show one set of mounts, or at least for what I saw for a C4. All the parts in the kit were very high quality.

I have been a loyal customer to Van Steel since I purchased the coilover set for The Ghost. I wish I knew how great they are on customer service, and Corvette knowledge years ago.

Questions regarding ride quality, I say this: On the dual adjustable shocks all is a matter of patience, and test drives. Few weeks ago I was driving to Utah, and I felt the ride was a bit harsh for cruising on the freeway. I stopped, and gave two clicks off front & rear, and I had a comfortable ride.

When play time comes up, I will put those clicks back on.

Just the way you tune your radio's volume.

The ride is better, the ones I have are single adjustable so I can change the ride. Currently it is 26.5" all around to the top of the wheel well.

PLRX and cshuman; what springs rates did each of you go with and would you go with the same spring rates if you had to do it over again? I'm trying to understand the difference between single adjustable and double adjustable. Any clarification is greatly appreciated. My winter project!

400# front 350# in the rear. That was their recommendation based on the fact that I told them it was for cruising. A single adjustable changes compression and rebound. With a double adjustable you can set the compression and rebound separately. For street use the single is all you need.

In the case of the rear-Is each spring 350# or 175# (for a total of 350)

I used 10", 450# front and 400# rear, and this prevented the rear from coil bind.

with the near 50-50 weight ratio, 450# F/ 450# or 400# R or even 425# would allow you to drop as low as you like and still have good spring compression and no coil bind,

The 350# rear was great around town, it was just the dips on the interstate that made me go stiffer

I didn't think it would be that high of a spring rate.

For example-on my solid axle conversion (with the shock now located behind the axle) I have 200# springs and it is stiff. I may go with a 175# spring.

I guess in your case with the spring in the stock location it does not have as much leverage as the spring further back.

Thanks for the info!

Hi guys, currently having a thread open for 85 coil overs,i'm collecting infos and every day i'm deeper into specs and issue related to this project.Since all parts will come overseas i can't make error with my order. I'm thinkin' about modifing the towers if something goes wrong with parts. So if spring diameter is too large i can enlarge existing towers and re weld the top mount plate,or i can have new thiker towers welded on.As for spring rate i collected infos about a spring rate of 400-450 front 375-400 rear (stiffer performance ride). Now ,onto the last doubts, what springs LENGHT is best tuned for the front set up.I'm currently watching QA1 coil in the 10 " inches lenght. Is this lenght effective? does this lenght work and set the car to the desired height ?(not too high )
thanks guys for your feedback
