I've pretty much figured from the archives about how to change it but i also read that you need to drain it, then drive it or something to make sure to get all the transmission fluid out. Otherwise your only changing like a 1/3 of it.
Re: Changing Tranny Fluid Have a Question? (n1kki6)
I would strongly advise against driving your car with 1/3 of your transmission fluid missing. I assume you have a automatic. the lyons share of your trans. fluid is in the torque converter and remains there during a fluid change. That's why you don't get a complete change by just dropping the trans. pan. You can easily damamge your trans. if you drive it with 1/3 of the total required fluid missing. :nono: You can have it professionally changed and they will use a machine that will completely replace all your fluid including whats in the converter.
Re: Changing Tranny Fluid Have a Question? (n1kki6)
I posted something a while back it might have been on netvettes.com. About changing the trans fluid from the upper line on the radiator any getting everything out. Sorry couldn't help more friggin work keeps getting the way.
Re: Changing Tranny Fluid Have a Question? (n1kki6)
no, its a stick, but i thought i read somewhere that if you only drain whats in the pan your not getting it all out or something.
you have the ZF6 right? No pan in these. Anyways, don't drive without all the oil in! Trust me that when you finally get the plug off the bottom of the case off(use a 17mm allen wrench) enough oil will drain out for you to do a thourough job. Very little will be left in there. Hopefully the plug isn't ground down from road rash.

Seems you have a lot of different transmissions confused, be careful!
Get the fill plug out first. Then the drain plug. You will need a good quality 17mm allen wrench, snap-on makes a good one. Drain is on the bottom, fill on the passenger side. Last I heard GM still stocks the replacement plugs.
You will need a pump of some sort to get the new oil in. If the car is not level you will have to measure the fluid going in (2.1 L or 4.4 pints on my 89).
I use anti-seize on the plugs. I also am using the GM 1052931 transaxel lube.
