I don't know of anyone who has done it or considered it. I would think, its probably going to be an expensive conversion.
FWIW I have considered putting a 4L80e in my vette. I have one, but even at that, the tailshaft conversion kit is $600.00 a controller would be $600-900.00 dollars, and then there is the converter. By the time I upgrade it would run a min. of $2,500.00 in parts and probably more. Unless I really start having problems with the 4L60 not holding up to the power, I will probably stick with it.
Again, FWIW it seems there is more information out there for doing the opposite. Taking the 6L80 out and putting in a 4L80. I assume it has to do with strength and available aftermarket support.
Never the less, if you do it, I hope you post progress reports and let us know how it works. It sure sounds like a good idea to me, if the cost is not too much.
4l80e takes a lot of horsepower to turn, wouldn't be worth behind a small block, 700r4/4l60e can be built plenty stout enough for the baddest sbc
I have always heard this as well, but would like to see documented proof of it being true, and if so how much.
On the other hand, the 4L80 offers a closer gear ratio, so the drop from 1st to 2nd is not as much.
