Unless there's a way to check if the temp sensor ( by teh passenger side heads) is good or bad, I'll replace it tomorrow.
Remove wire.
Sensor resistance is dependant upon temperature:

210* = 185 ohms
160* = 450 ohms
100* = 1,800 ohms
70* = 3,400 ohms
40* = 7,500 ohms
20* = 13,500 ohms

This across the two pins on the sensor.

I was refering to the digital temp gauge (single-blade type) by the pass. side. I thought the resistance list you gave me is for the coolant temp sensor. Since I'm bored I'll see if this works on the blade-type. At least I'm learning what some of these sensors are.

Sorry about the long post and many replys...I just want to knock off one problem before going to the next. I think I need a vacation from the Vette. And thanks for all your help esp. Pete who's been responding many times. Now I'm going to take a couple of Motrine and vegetate.

Thanks Ray. Now I understand how folks get the switch and the dash sensor mixed up. Think the oil temp sensor is a single as well (and just had it apart 3 months ago). This is what happens when you get old!
Pete, I hear ya about getting old! I know the dash sensor and the oil temp sensor are different parts, but as I recall, they are single wire, just can't remember if oil is a spade connector. I'll check next oil change, but due to advanced age, I'll forget immediately! The switch and the dash sensor do have different connectors though. The sensor is a spade and the switch is a button head. So it shouldn't be that difficult for folks to tell the difference. Even when switching sides between '85 and '86. I guess the answer is get a FACTORY manual and check the wiring diagrams. That way you know. Or use the Forum, a very cheap manual!

87Beast, the resistance list Pete gave you is for the coolant temp sensor. I think everybody got mixed up on this one! For the Guage sensor use:

Could be the Dark Green wire coming from the sensor to the cluster is open. Being equal to or greater than 1600 Ohms, an open would give you a LO reading. To check, disconnect the Dark Green wire from the sensor and touch it to something grounded like the exhaust maniford. Switch ignition to on (no need to start) and the dash should read 330°F. If it does read 330°F with Dark Green wire from sensor grounded the sensor is bad, if it still reads LO, there is an open between the sensor and the cluster.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the info Ray. And yes the oil temp is a single blade conn. (if this is the part that is located at the back of the manifold that I replaced last month).
By the way how is it having a Vette in the UK? Are there a lot of people gawking? Are there many Vettes over there?

Seth,
I'm an ex US Navy submariner. Been working for Lockheed Martin for nearly 18 years and in the UK for the last 12 and a half. There are actually more Corvettes here than you'd imagine, but not too many to lose their exotic quality. You're more likely to see a Ferrari on the road than a Corvette! So the is the gawk effect.

Lucky you... Have you been stationed at COMSUBPAC Pearl Harbor? My last command, COMASWFORPAC, switched from CINCPACFLT HQ to CSP in '99.

No, being an East coast guy, I wanted to stay in SUBLANT. I was home ported in New London and our boomers refitted out of Holy Loch, Scotland. That's where I got my first taste of the UK. I was at the Cape the last 2 years I was in.
