I have a CompCam 501-8 (.488in-.495ex.) cam in my '87. It added a little rpm but most of the gain was bottom end and mid-range. At least that's the way it works until I do some plenum, runner and base manifold upgrades. The stock system is just barely adequate for the stock cam. IMO, you will need more air and at least #30 injectors to notice a big top-end change. That's my next step.

I decided to do the TPI port mod instead of going with a SR or MR. If that could get me to 5000 I'd be happy. Any more and I'll be thouroughly satisfied! :D

IMO, I think you'll need to jump to a SuperRam or a TPIS Mini-Ram. The LT4 HOT Cam peaks around 5900 or 6000 rpm. With high flow runners, etc your engine will likely be out of breath by then.
