The auto tranny receives TCC signal from the ECM based on inputs to the ECM, namely Throttle position (TV cable) determining oil press and shift points, this may prevent the conversion.
Good News;
The dash receives sensor input directly then sends a data stream to ECM for mileage/range so your dash will be OK as long as you keep sensors on your engine. You will loose mileage and range measurement, that's all.
Forum member 'Yoslambo1@cs.com' has done exactly this swap in an '84 with a TH700R4. He faxed me an old magazine article about the swap. I'm surprised he hasn't posted yet.
The dash uses different sensors than the ECM. You will only lose the MGP readings. To use the th700r4 you need a bracket for the TV-cable and something that control the TCC. There are stand-alone control units available. You will also need to replace the HEI with a vacuum advance type.
Anyone know how to set up a 383 with a carb with a 700r4? I want to keep my dash working with it.
:yesnod: if you give me a fax # or address i can send you all the info you will need! you can use the computer to controll the tranny & dash. drop me an email. :cheers:

you could always leave the ecm in to control the tcc and spark. You wont loose the dash readouts then. Theres some articles on http://www.diy-efi.org about doing this. I beleive you only need 3 or 4 sensors. Best of both worlds, massive air/fuel flow. Customizible spark curves.
