Default Heat Barrier for Roof

Texas has brutal sun in the summer, and I have a black car. So I decided to try some high tech.

With the headliner removed from the targa top, I fitted a sheet of ThermoTec Aluminized Heat Barrier to the top. The edges tuck in, and I glued it to the top.
I reinstalled the headliner with more glue, and let it all dry overnight.

There is a significant reduction in heat from the targa top when the car is in the sun, based on feeling the headliner with my hand. Not very scientific, but the AC seems to cool better. The Barrier is only 1/8 inch thick, so headroom is essentially unchanged.

Every little bit helps.

Sounds like you are loosing the clear coat on the glass top. Common problem and you have two choices:

1. Replace the top. Ranges from $250 (lucky to find used) - $1200 (buy GM new)
2. http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/blue92/targa_top.shtml

You might try some Goo Gone. That takes off tree sap, road grime, etc.
If that doesn't work, try a fine plexiglass polish, like jeweler's rouge. Just be gentle.
That's my best guess.

Thank You Guys very much, I really appreciate all of your advice :DI will start with the GooGone first if that fails I can do the wet sand by hand, then the wax  If all else fails I made contact with my dealer who has a top in the box for half price 700.00, I hate projects that I'm not familiar with :(

I was told that vinegar works at getting water spots out. I've never tried it but I figure its worth a try for you and I don't think it will be very harmful to your top either. Good luck and be sure to let us know if it works. :seeya

Might try some diluted muriatic acid. IF it's just water spots, a 10:1 ratio of water to acid should remove them quickly. Worth a shot before you go to sanding/buffing.

Scrape at one of your "water spots" with your thumbnail. If it flakes off it isn't a water spot, it's your clear coat. That's exactly what mine looked like. Kinda looks like it's covered with bubbles. :yesnod:
