Welding the Y-Pipe to the cat, will prevent the exhaust from ever being removed. Saving $60 bucks now, will end up costing more in the end when the exhaust will have to eventually be cut off and installed properly.
You never know when you'll have to remove or service the rear differential or in my case, switch the Corsa exhaust onto another C4 Vette after my 89 was totaled.
Here's a quote I always find true, "You Never have the time to do it Right but, you Always have the time to do it Twice!"... .
Well, I'm back to thinking I'll have it cut and welded. If I ever need to remove the Y pipe I can just cut it back off. I plan to learn to weld during or soon after college, so I could either weld it back myself or take it to a shop.
I'll sleep on it and take my car in tomorrow.

Thanks again for the advice guys! I had the Y pipe welded on and got the rest of the exhaust assembled a while ago, but just got around to getting a picture. Here's the finished project (excuse the chipping paint):
I learned to MIG weld the other day so if I ever need to remove it I can just cut it off and weld it back on.
