Default Replacement Catalytic Converters

Are the Eastern Catalytic converters any good? Anyone have any experience with these? I know they are not CA or NY legal, but I am in AZ so that does not matter. These are a bit cheaper than the Flowmaster ones...but not by much.

Speaking of Flowmaster...are their catalytic converters any good?

Thanks again.

Id just hollow out what you have Vs. Spending the $$.

Will still pass the tests, visual and sniffer.

What year is your Vette? Mine is an 88 verte. and I am insured with Hagerty and was able to get mine so it doesn't have to be smogged. Hagerty does do later model vehicles so that way, here in Az we don't have to smog them. If you want the Hagerty's agents name, just let me know. He lives a mile from me.

Not able to hollow-out the cats as this is on a '96..so have OBDII and this would set the Check Engine Light, affect PCM, have to get emissions done every two years, and so on and on.

So back to replacing the cats:
Flowmaster, Eastern, or another? Have read some reveiws on Easterns, altough none for a C4, they seem to have a fit problem. So still investigating replacements.

I would think there's maybe just 1 or 2 manufacturers and anyone else is reboxing/rebranding those and reselling. There appears to be a couple different bracket configurations for the right side and I believe I'd likely go with the more stable appearing bracket arrangement.

I believe it was the Flowmaster that looked like it had the better of the bracket fabrication. Doesn't speak for the internals but maybe the fit and finish.

I put the Flowmaster cats on a 93. They fit fine with the stock manifolds.

Have ordered the Flowmaster cat for the left side, which is the one that is causing the pinging noise. Trying to decide whether I should replace the right side as well or not..???

What do you guys think?

Why spend the cash. I had one bad one and just replaced the one and no problems with smog check. Unless you just don't like the 2 looking diff.

Probably not that much of a difference in looks, but I was thinking more along the lines of having a more restrictive exhaust flow on the right side of the engine with the OEM cat than on the left side with the new Flowmaster cat.

Any merits to this thinking?

Magnaflow... and get the ones for California.

Here is why... you get what you pay for. Buy cheap junk, you get cheap junk. You will have to replace it again before the next smog check, I can almost promise that.

Magnaflow also has them premade to fit the LTx motors. A little more pricey, but they look real nice.

I have these on my 92 and they passed smog just fine - I had a lean condition caused by a vacuum leak.

Random Technologies. Works well enough to silence some of the noise. Fit was good.

Have not been able to locate a vendor for Random Technologies; go tthe part numbers I need...but appears these are not direct fit...but just the cats themselves so I would need to cut the old ones off and weld these on.....is that correct??

Who sells these?

Have sent an email to Random Technologies regarding the ones for my '96.
Are these a direct fit or a weld-on?
