Hi,
I'm new here. I have a unique problem with my shifter hanging, between 1st and 2nd and also from 3rd to 2nd gear. I had 2nd gear replaced along with the syncro etc. I think it may be the linkage, but I see you cannot buy after market shift kits for the Doug Nash 4+3. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Gus http://www.gusvette.com
What exactly do you mean by "hanging"? Hesitation?
Have you adjusted the shifter correctly? You can make up a neutral adjuster from a piece of flat stock.
Is the shifter real sloppy? The pivot circlip may be worn or broken.
Try disassembling the shifter, cleaning it up, tighten it up to eliminate the excess clearance between the plates. You might want to eliminate the reverse keylock assembly.
Most 4+3 shifters I've seen (and bought) have gone for ~$100...
I'm going to a Richmond 6 speed and won't be needing my shifter(I have 2) or the 4+3(I have 2 of them also) I will sell one of the shifter linkages for $100 this does not include the handle. If you need pic's I can send them.

Here is what happenes.
Shifting from 1st to 2nd you have to baby it into gear. If you are going around a corner to the right and put any pressure towards the left it gets stuck. You have to go forward and to the right just a little to get it into 2nd. So if you had a straight "H" for 1,2,3,4. The shifter feels ok otherwise. I've had many 4 speeds but never had this experience before. I'm used to just pulling straight back into 2nd gear. Hope this explains my problem better.

OPEL,
I'll know sometime next week about your offer, my mechanic has already checked the linkage and assures me its o.k. So it may be in the shifter itself
I'll let ya know, thanks for the offer :)

An acquaintance hereabouts bought a 4+3 Vert with a "bad trans" for cheap. Checking it out, his shifter was real sloppy (well broken in). Checking the shifter out, we found the lever was actually going between the plates when shifting. We (read "I") cleaned it up, tightened the main housing up in a 10 ton press, and shimmed it to take up the slop.
Now it shifts real nice. And surprise, surprise, the "bad trans" fixed itself! :D
Rich B, I have two 4+3's Ones from my 85 it has the TV cable the overdrive is fine but there's a noise in the 4 speed (bad bearing). The other one is the 86 and up with out the TV cable, that ones still in the car.
I will be selling both at some time but I don't want to sell the one I'm using untill I'm sure I'll like the Richmond. but if you want the 85 one make an offer.

Opel,
yeah, I know about that noisy 4 sp bearing. I just had mine replace. Never knew it could be so quiet!. Now if I get the shifter fixed, I'll be in Vette heaven again!
