Washing the engine & engine bay?

Washing the engine & engine bay?
Can this be done carefully? I was thinking of spraying the bay with Gunk, and lightly pouring water over it to rinse it off. I know the opti must not get wet, but everything else ok with just running water, not pressure?

Take care with all electrical connectors too as well as the alt.
Even witout an opti I always hand wash mine with carb cleaner and Armorall combined with air and a brush.

I wouldnt risk pouring anything near the front of the engine.
Get you a spray bottle and a cloth and clean it up slowly.
