Default 85-87 Spark Plug Wire Lengths

I haven't posted in awhile so I thought I post some obscure Vette info I found today. I don't know how accurate it is since I pulled it from my vintage 86 dealer parts and illustration catalog. These are the catalogs the dealer used before computers. I'm doing a tune-up on a friend's 85 Vette. I returned the cap, rotor, and wires to Autozone where I bought the parts originally in '06. Ok, I know, not the best quality but I'm confident other members of this forum buy from O'Reillys, Pep Boys etc. AutoZone kept the old parts so when I got home I had to figure out where the wires went again. Instead, I pulled out the old parts manual which showed the wire lengths to the various plugs. The DuraLast wires were close but not exact so I thought I'd post what I found. The factory parts manual shows 85-86 wire lengths 1-8 as follows. 44", 40", 40", 32", 26", 28", 24", 26". 87 lengths are 48", 44", 44", 36", 26", 28", 28", 28". I used the DuraLast wire lengths 44", 44", 40", 36", 26", 28", 26", 26" for plugs 1-8. The 28" DuraLast wire is the one with the slightly bent spark plug boot where all the others are 90 degrees. Well, I'm sure this is just more useless information but I had fun figuring it out and the wires fit great the first time without pulling them off and putting them on. Have fun!!!

Not useless at all. Thanks for posting.

I was surprised when I discovered a few years ago that my 85 and 87 called for different wire sets. This information will help someone in the future

You're right. Making your own will always look and fit better. I don't have the good crimping tool otherwise I might try making my own. The cheap crimper doesn't do it for me. I just haven't broken down and bougt a good one. There is always extra slack in the pre-made wires. Thanks for your reply.
