I over-tightened the first one (cork) and it leaked. I tightened the second one with a torque wrench to the service manual specified 8 lbft and it's starting to leak. The pan and case seem straight. Are there any neoprene type gaskets available so I can stop getting ATF everywhere?
I just hade my tranny done and the guy used some tranny grease around the gasket. {not cork} Make sure that it is not coming from other gasket surfaces like the dip stick tube front pump seal shifter seal, Etc.
Aaron,
I never use the cork gaskets..thats 50's technology to me.They always swell and leak. Its a matter of when.
I buy my filter and gasket kits from GM and I throw the cork gasket away and use the charcoal/black colored gasket in it.Its Some kind of thick paper or composite of some kind.Never leaked on me.
GM gives you two gaskets with the kits.I also never use RTV or any sealers,Just clean the surfaces real good and use the black gasket and torque away.
:)
What kind of gasket are you using? NEVER use those rolled up ones the parts places sell. They will never seal. Your local Chevy dealer has good ones that come in a flat package, along with the filter. Always worked good for me :D
