Quick radio question
Thanks in advance
Mike
It looks for the head unit... makes sure it happy or something...
You will not get a code with an 89.
Also, if you are going to gut the system, do it right... remove and replace everything. The wire is just too old, too thin and too lame to be using with high output amps and such. A good 16 gauge auto speaker wire is my experienced advice...
oh, I have been installing car audio for 30+ years. I have been around the block and have been burned by bad ideas...
use good wire, good ground and keep the RCAs away from any power source (I like running mine down centre console, but that's me... Run any power amp wires from the battery, through the firewall and into the car down the left sill. Keep them far away from the RCAs or you will regret it.
Get a good head unit, one with 4V (4 volts) out mains. These will help quell noise by making the signal stronger and requiring less sensitivity by the amps.
Kenwood, Alpine and Pioneer have heads with 4V outs. Do not get some blingy head with only 2V out, it will ultimately disappoint you... if they cheapen on the output voltage, where else did they cheapen?
I have the Kenwood 797. It's I think been replaced by the 798, but it's a nice head for about $200 with excellent sound.
