Default check engine light, maybe dumb question

OK, was driving on freeway this morning and check engine light came on briefly twice. Hasn't done it since. Car is running fine, nothing out of range of overheating. Is this necessarily a cause for concern, or could it have just thrown a code for some obscure monentary glich?

Sounds like a Code 32, which is the EGR. Replace the solenoid and/or switch if you want it fixed. Its not a major problem if thats what it is, mine popped up yesterday and i ignore it.

thanks, I will just have it checked next time I am in for regular maintainance then. I can tell this car is going to be a big project.... but that is actually one of the reasons I bought it. Only had it a couple of months and already done the following. New paint, new interior, new 18 inch wheels/tires, new flowmaster exhaust, serp belt, alternator, battery, tint, viper 550es alarm w/autostart, 10 disk changer w/amps and wooffers, brakes, rotors, shocks, throttle body, K&N, cut intake....and more to come, I am sure.

Mine used to do the same thing. You can 'trick' the ECM to not go through the EGR cycle. About every 10 minutes or so, just give it some gas andvary your speed by about 5-10 mph. This tricks the ECM to think you are not cruising. I used to do this because the check engine light would stay on long enough where the plastic cover for my DIC would start to warp. I also have a theory about the EGR thing, but it is probably wrong. If you just bought your vette, your driving habits may differ from the previous owners. This may cause the ECM to have to relearn your driving habits. Perhaps disconnecting your NEG battery cable to clear stored codes and clear learned info will help. There is a process for reteaching the ECM, I just cant think of the exact steps right now. Maybe someone else will be able to elaborate.

New battery, so codes have probably already been cleared, but yes, it didn't come on again during street driving. (varied speeds) I probably do drive a bit differently than previous owner. Still getting used to car, so sometimes wildly fast, other times very conservative. One thing I am happy about, (I am third owner of the car) is that 2nd owner had all maintainence records from the day it was bought. Of course, it took me an hour to read through them all... hehe
