93 Master cylinder brake warning light switch
It's been a while since I've been here, needless to say I've been busy with a couple (non-corvette related) projects.
The vette has come to the top of the list again, and I will be able to complete some basic work that has needed to be done on the car this winter. (don't worry, I have done the annual oil change and kept up on the sub-basics).
One of these things "to do" is to replace the sensor (plastic) that goes into the bottom side of the brake master cylinder (white in color, I will snap a picture or two tonight) that broke. I was told that this two-pin connector is for the "brake warning light" on the dash.
In my instance, the white connector broke off of bottom of the master cylinder. Threaded portion and all, broke off flush with the body of the MC. In other words, the electrical connection has been disconnected from the MC for quite some time (2+ years), and I have not received a warning light. The sensor is threaded plastic (odd choice) 2 pin and the little spring was also showing.
2 questions:
1) Shouldn't I have received a "BRAKE" warning light on the dash while this sensor was broken/disconnected?
2) When I install the new sensor, it would stand to reason that I will loose some brake fluid ... however given it's current condition, I am not so sure.
There should not be any brake fluid where that switch screws in. If there is fluid there then you have a bad internal seal.
The same switch was used from '84 through '95 so they are easy to find. It was eliminated in 1996.
Be careful with the connector (the black part) -- they are almost impossible to find. Only used ones are available now.
