I replaced the destroyed nylon gear and bushings in my port side headlight but with the hood closed it still only opens half way, but will open all the way with the hood up. I can turn on the lights and give it a little assistance and it will open but not on it's own.
It also won't completely close, stays open about a half inch and the manual operating **** won't close it, bottoms out before the light door closes.
I assume this is a weak motor or motor gear problem. There's a guy on feebay that will rebuild your motor for around $100. Anybody had theirs done by him? Anybody else rebuild the motors?
This happened on my buddy's car, it would work fine with hood up and then when we put it down, it would hang up half way. Look over the assembly, I don't think the motor is the problem, I think it is in the assembly. His straightened up after a few times.
I hate to see you buy a motor and it does the same thing.

I don't understand this part. What is bottoming out? There are stops that determine how far the headlight mechanism opens and closes. Are you hitting the stops or is there some mechanical interference?
I have heard of headlight mechanisms hitting "stuff" stored in the area in front of the wheel well. Some people carry extra oil and other things in that area. Worked fine with hood open. Hit "stuff' when hood was closed.

I have had excellent product and service from EBay carguy88 . Cost was $80 and a $75 core charge which was promptly returned. After replacing motor I had some questions and Stan reminded me of his warrenty. All turned out good.
One final note, check for any nicks or scratches on the headlamp frame. Mine had some on the passenger side (95 coupe) and the source was erratic bumping against a hose and clamp going to the coolant tank. Of course, with the hood up I never would see this problem in action. Merry Christmas

The motor isn't closing the door all the way, I can manually push it closed but it won't stay. It's like the gear in the motor isn't turning it far enough. The manual **** also bottoms out before the door is completely closed. I checked good for anything that might be interfering with the operation, didn't see a thing. It's not hitting the stops, they are adjusted properly.
I'll looking it over more closely, my mechanic buddy also found a complete assembly we can try out.
Thanks for the review John, glad to hear he's on the up and up and stands by his work. Beautiful car !!!!
