Default Burning chips

Anyone know of any reputable people on here that are able to burn chips for an '85? Or any other place would be fine also. Thanks again

There's not many tuners that will touch an 85. I believe Ed Wright at Fastchip still does.

For an 85, you might want to consider adapting the 2732 eprom to a more modern chip.

tbi based example here: http://moates.net/documentation.php?documentation_id=10

Converting to a 165 ecm is another option.

I suggest some research to see what realistic expectation are for a chip. GM does them for the average driver, and none of us are that, for sure! This, of course, referring to how the car is maintained and fueled.

I believe 'common' chips demand premium fuel and really only alter the full throttle parameters, maybe the ignition advance curve, as the ECM seeks optimal fuel:air ratio; around 14.7:1. It isn't changing what's inside the engine, so there'll be no sudden, magically catapult launch.

If your looking to work up an 85, the ECM needs to be upgraded.

Doesn't need to be upgraded. I tuned mine myself and everything works perfectly. Like a brand new car, no hiccups anywhere. I was having problems at first because my tuner was trying to do it and I got fed up and did it myself. Just takes a little longer than most ECUs to tune.

Would mind sharing what equipment and software you used to accomplish this result?

I would say if you plan on doing mods to the engine then upgrading to a 165 ECM is advisable. The newer ECM provides much better data logging abilities and many more programming parameters. If I had the chance to do things over again, I would make the ECM upgrade one of my first mods. If you are interested, I can share what the upgrade would involve. I've documented the steps and the wiring changes. I was able to do the upgrade in a day for the cost of $230. Once upgraded, you will find several tuners that will work with you or invest in the hardware and software and tune on your own.

Sure.

7 things were needed to tune this.

ALDL to USB cable: http://www.aldlcables.com/products/aldlobd1u.asp

Chip burner/Eraser: https://www.moates.net/burn2-chip-pr....html?cPath=64

Chips: https://www.moates.net/c2-sst-27sf51....html?cPath=26

Adapter: https://www.moates.net/g2-memory-ada....html?cPath=64

ZIF socket: https://www.moates.net/s2-aries-28pi....html?cPath=26

Laptop: Any will work

Tuning Software: Tuner Pro RT http://tunerpro.net/downloadApp.htm

Moates offers a soldering service for the adapter. I chose to have them do it for mine. I think it was $25. A lot of people on this forum helped me a lot with it and if anyone needs any advice feel free to ask me. I can help to the best of my ability from what I have personal experience with. If I don't know the answer I'm sure there are other people on here who do and I can recommend them to you.

The things that I changed in my tune consist of the following:

MAF tables, spark advance table, open loop air/fuel ratio vs. coolant temp, cranking fuel vs. coolant temp, open loop air/fuel ratio vs. load, idle target vs. coolant temp, fan on temp, acceleration enrichment enable TPS threshold, acceleration enrichment disable TPS threshold, EGR diagnostic, EST diagnostic, VSS diagnostic, WOT Air/Fuel ratio vs. coolant temp, WOT Air/Fuel ratio vs. RPM, and IAC counts add for AC on, and probably a few other things that I forgot.

But that's mainly it. All that and it runs beautifully. Tons of throttle response. Tons. More than you will find in a brand new car.

If you haven't made any other mods there's no point in replacing the chip. I doubt you'll feel any difference.
