Hey guys! I've really been considering camming my 1992 6speed Vette lately. Basically I've been looking for some more power and to hear some cam at idle. This car is a daily driver. So far its got 15 lbs off the flywheel, SPEC Clutch, a full exhaust, Custom intake lid, and thats really about it as far as powertrain mods go.... Car still has to pass emissions, and has hi-flow cats.
I know what I've been leaning toward, but I would like to know your suggestions. And BUDGET is the key word!
Oh! And what do you guys recomend replacing in the heads?

I just finished building a LT1. We did the 383 stroker, but used stock heads and intake. We decided to use the GM hot cam as it was a good compromise between performance and daily driving. The key question you have to answer for your self is do you want a comfortable daily driver? The more radical you get with the cam, the less comfortable it is to drive to work. If you are concerned about money, heads can break the bank. I would suggest to just clean up the heads and do a nice valve job. So, I suggest a cam similar to the hot cam and throw on some good roller rockers.
What would you specifically do to the stock heads and the intake manifold? I've built a few performance motors, but they have all been big budget motorcycle engines. I don't mind it being a bit of a bitch to drive either. It just still needs to be somewhat reasonable. I just need to be pointed in the correct direction.

Send the heads and intake to either Advanced Induction or Lloyd Elliott for basic valve job and port/polish. When coupled with a bigger cam and good tune, it will make a BIG difference.
And would you replace pushrods and lifters? Or just the Rockers and Valve Springs?
As for your first question, that cam should be fine for everyday driving. I haven't checked any other details related to your car, but with that cam you'll certainly want to be using exhaust headers and possibly a slightly higher rpm torque converter.
Push rods, lifters, rockers and springs ... any and all of these pieces may need to be replaced depending on engine mileage and general condition. Irrespective of mileage and condition, the push rods will need to be replaced if they are not the correct length for the new cam and/or rockers. New roller rockers would be a nice addition ... they aren't overly expensive and will help performance.
Clutch, lightweight flywheel, full exhaust, airbox lid, street fire coil, z06 wheels (lighter than stock), short shifter. So boltons lol. Im pretty sure that's everything speed related.
If you have to pass emissions (sniffer test) then make sure you discuss that with the cam grinder and you will likely end up with a mild cam to ensure you pass.
I think I go against the grain here but a good set of ported heads(or aftermarket like AFR 180 cc) will make a bigger gain than a cam and stock heads.
For what it would cost to send your heads to Advanced Induction you could have a set of good aftermarket heads with room to grow.
