Default cold air intake

hello.. i have a 85 corvette.. what i dont like is the air intake, i was thinking of putting a filter on the snorkle (above the fan) but it gets hot under that hood in the summer and im thinking the hot air might choke it out..can a cold air intake be run somewhere else, and would the length of the pipe affect performance.. thanks

The hot air will not choke it out, it already breathes most of its air after its gone through the radiator into the engine bay. The C4 doesn't get much air through at little slit between the hood and bumper.

I have the SLP CAI, which requires a hole to be cut in the shroud in front of the radiator and lowers a scoop to catch pre-radiator air.

However these things are really not worth the expense and don't do much for you. The money would be best spent elsewhere.

There's some controversy over whether cool air intakes create any gains. I'm on the side that says a cooler intake charge increase volumetric efficiency and, hence, makes them worth it. Besides, I really prefer the look of a grill in the front of my C4...

I bought the vortex air ram or something like that couple of years ago, like vader, I had to cut a section of air cleaner out....don't think it makes that much difference for the price.....what looks cool is those guys who run air throught the front plate to the tb.....doesn't seem like it would take too much engineering to make it work....

Exactly what my 'expert' told me long ago.

What I did find was noticeably degraded power when the underhood temperature rose a LOT, without the stock intake tubing (only a HiPerf cone aftermarket).
