Default Power Chip

I have a 85 Vette that I was told had a power chip when it was purchased. Where is the chip located on the 85? Also, I just purchased a 93 and was told that the same chip could be used for the 85 thru 93. How can I find out if the 85 chip will work on the 93? Thanks for any help.

First of all, unless that 85 has been modded that chip doesnt do a damn thing for it besides turning on the fans early, if that much.

The Chip shouldnt work on a 93, totally different engine, TOTALLY different.

The chip is located underneath the passenger side "breadbox," Remove the black hush panel underneath (just above your feet) and there are 3 7mm screws holding that panel on. Then look directly up and youll see the ECM unit, there are 2 10mm bolts holding it in.

Thanks for the info. I think I want a chip for my 93, and have been told by Hypertech that it will kick in at 1300 RPM. If so, it would help me with the initial burst at low speeds. I am changing the exhaust and adding a Vortex Ram Air. I have heard that the Vortex is better than the K&N. (any comments on that would be appreciated ) What I am trying to accomplish is a quick burst of power at the 45 to 55 MPH speed. I think what may be making the biggest difference between the 85 and 93 is the 85 has a 373 gear and the 93 has a 307 gear.

Do not buy a hypertech chip, its a waste of your good money.

Hypertech chips just add timing and turn the main fan on earlier than stock. Someone on the forum could burn you one and save a couple hundred dollars. Craig Marcho burned one for my 86. (Marcho Polo on the forum) Never believe what the hypercrap guys tell you either. While their Power Programmer for 94-96's is ok because you can do things yourself, the chips are worthless.

3.73s will wake up an LT1, youll feel like you have 50 more hp. Add a higher stall Torque Converter to the tranny and youll really be smoking the tires.

Just got a 85 hypertec today sending it back. They forget to inform you you need 93 oct for fuel so they must be setting timing up higher. for 24 cents a gal I don't need kind of hp. :cry :cry :U

i MIGHT agree with you on thie Vader!!! i got mine for around $30 and the ONLY reason i got it was to turn the fans on at 175 off at 160! haven't noticed anything from the chip except that my MPG went DOWN by 1-2 MPG highway!!!
