Default 85/86 ECM swappable?

My ECM went out on my 86 auto. Curious to see if an ECM from a 85 auto will work? Thanks alot.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but haven't I read about people swapping their '85 ECM's for the '86?

Just got 85 computer , wiring , TPI intake and the 85 uses a MAF module for the MAS air flow . I got tired of cross fire injection on 84 . 85 ecm number 01226870 I would not try a smoke test with out checking out pin assignment on computer.

Yes, but we had to either repin or replace the harness, along with change a couple other small things. Those of us that have done it did so because the ECM in the 85 sucks. It's slow and primitive, and burning custom PROMs to correspond to your mods is futile. 165s are easy enough to find because they were in so many vehicles (listed above). Ebay constantly has them and they seem to sell for around $50. I'm sure you can get one for less in a junk yard.

Just an FYI, the 16198259 is a direct replacement for the 165 ECM. The 16198259 is supposed to be less susceptible to board cracking.
