Default Baby LT1?

A guy has a block out of a police car for sale. He says it's a "Baby LT1" - 265 cubic inches. Can this block be rebuilt into a 350-383 LT1?

"265 - There was only one block used for the 265 cid version of the LT1. It’s a 10168588 casting that had the numbers "4.3" cast on the side, too. It’s real easy to spot if the heads are off because of the small 3.74" bore."

I assume that the 3.74 bore can't be overbored more than 0.060" so it's a long way from 4.00".

I would stay away from that motor for any sporting aspirations. It's basically an odd duck.

Its not an LT1, its an L99. They actually ran suprisingly well in the city cruisers they were installed in, they just lacked the ~ 140 mph top speed that the highway patrol liked (remember, I'm talking Caprice here, not Corvette). What I've always wondered is how the L99 would have worked in a 6 speed Vette, maybe mid 30 mpg highway, would have made the C4 more popular in Europe and other parts of the world where trading off top end punch for mpg would be warmly received.
