I am making a cold air intake to flow over the radiator on my 80 vette (yeah I know it's a c3 but it's miniram'd, so that puts it back in your court)
My MAF sensor is currently in a 4" tube to pod filter.
Are there any significant restrictions with MAF sensor placement?

2 diameters. U want the entry tube to be straight for at least 2 tube diameters before the MAF sensor. This prevents excessive turbulence entering the MAF sensor. That would be at least straight for 8" for yours. Maybe a good idea after the MAF too.
The main thing you want to watch for is to make sure all the air going into the engine is going through the MAF. Otherwise the computer will get an erroneous picture of how much air and fuel to mix together. That is why the PCV system gets its air from the throttle body. That air will get mixed in inside the intake manifold.

U need the 2 dia straight before the MAF to prevent uneven distribution or at least minimize it. That is from Greg Banish of Calibrated Success: http://calibratedsuccess.com/
The 2 dia after the MAF is just my idea and nice to do if u have the room.
