Default Overheating problem

I left my 93 running for about 15 minutes when I went into the house came out and the car was not running. I tried to start it look at the temperature and it was around 230°. I let the car cool completely down. Now the car Runs rough and spudders until it reaches 1000 RPMs ? Appears to be backfiring out of passenger side exhaust ?

Default So do you suspect it was much higher than 230?

If so you may have damaged your engine if the temps ran away until it wouldn't run while you were inside.

I'd check compression.

230 is not a big problem. There has to be another issue. Pull the codes to find out what is going on. The fan does not come on until 228.

I don't know what the temperature may have reached? Since it was not running when I came back out it may have hit 250

If your temp went up really high, you should see a couple of things. More coolant in the overflow....check passenger side front coolant tank. Also if you were only in the house for 15 minutes....it takes awhile for the engine to cool down. Don't think it was a temp issue. IF you had blown a head gasket because of a high temp, there would be a chance that a cylinder would have filled will coolant and you would not be able to start it because of hydro lock. When it did start you should have had steam out the exhaust once it was running. I will assume that when you tried to start it after it died, that the engine turned over but would not fire up.

Again check for codes.
