Default split radiator

My radiator tank has split on the bottom. I've never seen this before. What the heck could cause this. This stinking summer?

I had a B#$tch of a time finding the leak, but after removing the 'shroud from hell', I can see the bad news.

I was hoping for a nice hose replacement job, but nooooooo.

my 96 cracked at the upper front passenger side. The side tank developed a nice size crack. Have heard a few others cracking in the same location as mine. Not sure was caused it.

If you need a new radiator, I have one from my ZR-1 with 29,000 miles on it. 75 bucks plus shipping

nice price.

Eric from NJ i believe also has one that is pretty new.

Can't remember his forum name. Has has the 96CE with hot cam, gears and slicks. Runs in the corvette challenge series in NJ.

Thx for the offer, unfortunately, I JUST got back from the shop with it fixed. Lets just say your $75 was a good price. :yesnod:

They did show me the crack (the passenger side plastic piece, like Steve's). I could see the fluid but not where it was coming from until the radiator was actually pulled.

My stock one split too. :(

Do you guys have a non-factory thermostat?
The reason I ask is the "tip" I found on zr1.net.
claims changing the stat bumps up the radiator pressure.

Anyways I replaced mine with a BeCool unit, which I absolutely love!

Mine 'stat is stock...so that wasn't my reason for failure. The tech blamed the super hot summer....hmm

For those of you that haven't put yours back together yet, reverse the clips on the shroud in front of the radiator/condenser. Makes them a WHOLE LOT easier to get in and out.
