Default Alarm question

Hi all. The project 1990 corvette that I am working on only came with one key and vats bypassed and chip removed from key. What's the easiest way to install a alarm system or tell if the car came with an alarm/door lock fob. And if it came with an alarm can I just buy key fobs and program them to the car.

It came with an alarm system, but not a remote. The remote/fob system was entirely separate from the alarm system. It should be easy to see if the alarm system is still working; lock your doors using the electric locks, wait a minute and unlock the door using the manual switch. Open the door and it should go off if it is still operating. I think that is the right procedure for a 90, if not someone will correct me.

No fob for the '90, that didn't start until the 1993 model year.

To test your factory alarm (which the '90 did have from the factory)
1. Roll down drivers window.
2. Lock the door with the electric door lock button.
3. Close door (this will "arm" the factory alarm).
4. Now reach in through open window, and unlock the door and open it.
5. The horn should start sounding.

The system is "armed" when you lock the door.

There is a timeout function after locking the door. If you don't close the door within a certain period of time the alarm will go off. I think it's 45 seconds, but it could be a minute or more.

Oh OK, I didn't know that.
I thought you had to complete the sequence by closing the door.

So, if you open the door to get out. Then lock the door with the electric door locks (but don't close the door), the alarm will go off after a minute or so?
