Default 1984 C4 knock sensor question.

I finally figured out my fan relay switch problem. The brown or tan wire for the fan sensor switch in the head was on the passenger side but I had it plugged into the knock sensor. I also figured out another power wire I didn't have hooked up to energize the cooling fan relay. Now I feel a little better.

Now my problem is that I don't know what wire plugs into the knock sensor! I have a single blue wire with the type plug in for the knock sensor but I have it coming out the driver side and had it plugged into another sensor in the head driver side. I have 3 sensors for water, front, and both sides. I think I have one too many and one should probably just be a plug.

I just got a service manual CD but I can't even find the knock sensor in the wiring diagram. The single blue wire is long and maybe could reach to the knock sensor. I haven't tried yet and hope someone here can steer me into the right direction. You guys have been great so far so I hope this is another one you can figure out.

Thanks

Russ

It may be different on your car, but my knock sensor screws into the side of the block in front of the starter. It has the same connector as the fan switch. Rounded and you have to pinch it to get it off.

I agree with what you are saying but I am curious about the color of the wire to the knock sensor. Is it blue?

Thanks

Yes, the knock sensor wire is dk. blue. You should find it on pg. 8A-25 in your CD electrical manual (upper right corner).

There are three sensors for the coolant temp. The sensor (blue wire) for the dash display is in the left head, between cyl. 1 & 3.
The sensor (yellow wire) for the ECM is in the front of the intake manifold. And as you know, the switch (brown wire) for the fan relay is in the right head, between cyl.6 & 8. Note: This wiring is for '84 only.
