I got one of the low temp fan switches from MIDAMERICA, that kicks on the fan at 180. My understanding was that this kicks on the main fan at 180, but only my auxilary fan comes on at 180 and the main fan still comes on at 225-230 (cant remember for sure). Is this how the new fan switch is supposed to work? The auxilary fan doesnt do much to keep it cool and ends up running all the time since the temp is usually above 180 and it doesnt drop it very fast.
HHHhhhmmmmmm....... that doesn't sound right........are you sure you replaced the correct switch?............ running the aux fan won't do squat without the primary fan running..........
The low temp switch only controls the Aux radiator fan (relay). The primary fan is still computer (ECM) controlled. You will need a new PROM to change this. It is an easy change for someone w/ the tools.
i.e. Yes, it is operating as it should.
I presume you have cleaned in between your radiator and AC condensor, and or added "water wetter" to the coolant......
I posted a C4 Tech Tip on how to wire the aux fan sw into the main fan relay so that it brings on both fans. It only requires two splice connectors, matching spade lugs and a small section of wire (all available from Radio Shack).
