Default '91 Console Removal Help

I plugged my cell phone into the powerpoint in the front of my console....and put the lighter portion in the front cupholder.....well I didn't notice the huge hole in the side of the cupholder (great design work GM:mad )

Anyway...the darn lighter rolled through the hole and down into my console.......

So....I need to remove the console plate around my shifter to try and retrieve this lighter.......can anyone give me some instructions on which screws I need to remove to get this plate off?

I know I sound like a complete moron....but after the nightmare I had replacing the door ajar sensor I am very leery of just unscrewing every screw I can find :cry

Open the console armrest and take the two screws out. Then take out the cup holder liner or ashtray and remove the screw that's under there and you should be able to lift it up enough to reach under there.

What he said ......Be careful that you lift the cover from the back, just in front of where your console lid locks....there is another screw holding the front, under the cd/radio cover....If all else fails take out the center a/c louvre, then cover over the cd/radio......this should give you plenty of access.

Also don't forget to unplug the consolde light and lighter switch to take the console lid all the way off. Just put everything back on the way you took it off, thats how I figured out mine.

Had the same problem with mine. Mid America sells some inserts that fit in those cup holes that look nice and keep that from happening. Your ashtray normally would be in those holes, but if you got your car used, they may have been missing. It is part #603-188 for one or #603-190 for a pair.
