actually it doesn't change the horsepower or torque but it brings them in at a different time........ if you go to a numerically higher gear it will bring it all in sooner....... kinda like comparing starting out in 2nd gear as opposed to starting in first.......first gear gives you a little more zap at low speeds..........like a numerically higher gear would :seeya

LT1 makes its power in a higher rpm range than do L98s. Changing the rear gear ratio to 4.10 (for a 6speed) or 3.54/3.73 (in an auto) will knock a couple tenths of a second off the 1/4mi time usually by bringing the car into this higher rpm range much more quickly than the stock gears.

Nickd has posted that changing his 2.59 (I think) to a 3.54 lowered his 1/4 times by 1/2 a second. He also is using drag radials. He has a 94 by the way. On mine, I cant give you track times from before the gear change since I was never at the track. IMO this is the best mod you can do to a LT1. 2.59 and 3.07 gears might be fine for the L98 since its torque and HP comes in at a lower RPM but as one of the NJ guys have said on here several times, the 3.54-3.73 gears should have been the performance diff. from the factory. The 2.59 gear was used to raise gas milage standards for the goverment.
