Default C4 lt1 unnecessary under hood components

What the heck is an asr??? Why is the abs making noise when i loose traction???? Why is there sooo much clutter in my engine compartment!!!

Hey I want to start a thread with the goal off eliminating all unessentials, unless one already exists. I'm basically building a drivable rolling chassis go kart for now in lieu of a fiber glass body. It's a 92 C4 6 speed, what do you guys think?

I think it has been done a small percentage of the people here at some point of owner a C4. In most cases it's the L98 cars that get pieces removed the most but no exception to LT1s.

Most people looking to clean it up for performance or function over luxuries remove:
-AC
-Smog
-Cruise
-Surge tank
-spare tire
-etc, etc, How far you want to strip it is up to you.

I myself don't care about much but the cruise. I took pretty much everything out of my car. Maybe even the radio stuff next. Still a street car though.

I did read that some guys remove the ASR using a throttle cable from camaro? What is ASR? Is the EMC controlling throttle? I was also interested in removing ABS any experience with this? I thought I heard it engaging traction control when I broke traction... I'm building a track car that will be street legal by no means a daily tho.

ABS is the anti lock brake system, which only works under hard braking, when one or more of the tires start to skid. It is not making the noise when you spin tires on acceleration. That is the ASR, which is the early version of traction control. It activates when you start spinning the rear wheels when going straight or in a corner or when one or more wheels start going faster than the others. It will cut fuel to the engine and the gas pedal will kick back against your foot. You can turn it off by pushing the ASR button after you start the car. Then you can spin wheels and the car whenever you want.
It sounds as if you need to get and read the owners manual. I would also recommend that you buy the red cover factory service manuals for your year car.

ASR= Acceleration Slip Reduction, basically its there to prevent you from losing tire traction and loss of control of the car and crashing into a ditch, tree or telephone pole, etc.

You're right I do.... But those questions were more for presentation. Actually, Traction control uses the ABS module to slow the wheel that's spinning and boy is it noisy. The ASR does affect throttle and timing but ABS system is used for traction control.

Although, I would love to start a list describing all the stuff commonly eliminated from under the hood. For example: EGR block (although I wouldn't do this one. It cools the chamber during heavy load, A/C delete, Smog pump, Coolant through throttle body, Heater hoses ( I live in Florida), Cats, ASR, ABS???, ETC....
