My brakes have went away, the pedal is very soft and goes almost to the floor. So I check the fluid and the front canister was empty and the back was full of coffee. I filled the front with dot 3 and it is a little better, not much though. If I pump the brakes 3 times I get full braking, but the pressure goes out quick. Do I need a new master cylinder, or did I get air in the lines? Maybe try to bleed the brakes before I go get a new master cylinder?
Sounds like it could be leaking or seeping somewhere. I would go over the whole sytem and find out then bleeding might help. If you got a leak it could be sucking air in after fluid leaks out. Are any of th rotors rusting? It could be a bad caliper. If you fluid is "coffee" id suggest a flush if you replace anything. :smash:
My master cylinder showed the same symptoms before I replaced it. Turned out that the internal seals were shot.
Brakes are nothing to take for granted. Replacing the M/C is a relatively easy job. It's just a little time-consuming to bench bleed the M/C and then bleed all four calipers.
I would also agree that you should flush the entire system with new fluid: the moisture and other contaminants that cause the discoloration of the fluid are also what lead to corrosion and deterioration of the system.
