OK, my check engine light has been on and staying on, plus I cant even read codes as the light wont flash, it just stays on. When I try to start the car, I need to give it gas or it immediately dies.
Now, the last time I went to try and read the codes, after It cranked over with no problem (just wont idle or stay running without giving it gas), the battery went dead, no completely, but enough so it wont start. The starter just clicks. Could a bad battery be the culprit for all of this?
Re: Bad Battery Cause Checj Engine Light (69and88)
It could be a bad battery. Measure the battery terminal volts when cranking, it should not fall below 9.0 volt. If it does, try charging the battery. If the battery is near the end of its guarantee period, just replace the battery.
As jfb notes, check you battery voltage. Definitely sounds like a battery problem, or possibly charging problem causing low battery.
When you get low on voltage, the ECM will increase the pulse time on injectors based on what voltage the ECM is seeing. Car may not need this much fuel or it may need more fuel. Not exact science. Of course, if you can't start the car, another matter.
