I'm having trouble finding a new rear hatch glass for my 1987 Corvette. PPG says that they don't produce the glass anymore. Does any of you know if and when they start producing an item like that again?
im looking for 1 too, but im trying to get alexan one. Its waay lighter than stock but i dont know how durable. Exoticmuscle.com has them. Try parts places like dinos corvette salvage, they have millions :)
Get a hold of Glassman66 I think that is his screen name. I think he is the guy to ask. I seen a while back that he had new glass for doors and such......
The problem with our 87 glass is the 3rd brake light up top. Can't get that anymore. In fact I think the ZR1s are outta luck too. You can easily still get the later style one without the light and probably get somebody good to modify it for the light.
I've got an '89 and I really hate that 3rd brake light. I'd like to fab my own either under the glass or on the rear fascia. I would be willing to swap my rear hatch for a non-brake light hatch with rear defogger. I would pefer the same color hinge plate as my car. If you found a hatch for a '84-'85 or '91-'96 (non-ZR1) with defogger, I'd be willing to trade even. :)
I love my 3rd brake light. I feel that the early C4s with it and the ZR1s are the only ones that it is useful on. What good is it down in your bumper when an SUV is 5 feet off your butt?
Thanks for the responses. Problem is that I live in The Netherlands so a swap isn't that easy. I still prefer a new one since insurance is covering it. The rear hatch for the 1995 ZR-1 (3rd brake light) is also no longer available. I think that is a bit strange for a car that is seven years old. GM is really letting us down again. The solution is that PPG starts producing a new batch with correct fitments, but that is a long story.
wondering why they stopped producing them?? remember that there are over 1 million c4s made to date....... the company was getting killed by wreckers who keep tons of them in stock. Go to an american search engine and search corvette salvage or parts. You will find many. I have experence with Dinos corvette salvage and they have given me 10/10 parts so far. 1 (504) 467 - 8388 > dinos.
